With a wide variety of private school options, it can be challenging to find one that fits your family’s needs. What makes religious education different from regular private school? Is a Christian education the right choice for your child’s future?

What Does Christian Education Mean?

Christian Education

Public education is secular, meaning religion is not involved in the curriculum or the educational environment. Christian education, on the other hand, makes faith the centerpiece and compass, guiding everything that occurs within the school’s walls. From the curriculum to the learning environment, a religious education grounds your child in faith first, using it as a lens to understand everything else.

The Environment

What can you expect from a Christian education?

The environment is one of the most easily apparent differences. Instead of strictly separating faith from academics, children are free to pray and discuss their faith with peers and teachers. Studying the intersection of the Bible and academic subjects is common, and chapel services are part of weekly life. More than anything, the goal is to give children an environment where they can flourish and grow, feeling safe and loved and confident in their beliefs.

Academics

Of course, the principal goal of a school is academic excellence, and here at Shining Light Academy, we believe a Christian education should be every bit as rigorous as a secular one. We are members of the North Carolina Christian School Association and the American Association of Christian Schools and ensure all our courses meet or exceed state education requirements. We want students to be strong academically and religiously, and we’re dedicated to giving them the tools they need for future success, laying the groundwork for higher education and life beyond.
