Where is Shining Light Academy located?
We are located in Greensboro, North Carolina. Our campus serves families throughout the Piedmont Triad area who are seeking a Christ-centered educational environment.
What grade levels do you offer?
We offer a full educational path from preschool through 12th grade. This allows for a consistent spiritual and academic foundation from early childhood through high school graduation.
Is Shining Light Academy accredited?
While we are not formally accredited, we are members of the AACS, NCCSA, and recognized and approved by the NCDNPE as an educational institution.
What are the school’s daily hours?
Our standard school day begins at 8:00 AM and concludes at 3:00 PM for preschool and elementary and 3:15 for middle and high school. We also offer early drop-off and after-school care options to accommodate the schedules of our working families.
Does the school follow a specific denominational teaching?
Shining Light Academy is a ministry of Shining Light Baptist Church. Our teaching is rooted in traditional Baptist doctrine, emphasizing the authority of Scripture and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
What is the average class size?
We maintain small class sizes to ensure each student receives personalized attention. This allows our teachers to mentor students individually and foster a close-knit, family-like atmosphere in the classroom. Our maximum in preschool classrooms is 15, and we have an average class size of 20 in middle and high school classes.
Is there a specific dress code or uniform?
Yes, we have a standardized dress code for all students. We believe that a neat, modest appearance minimizes distractions and fosters a professional learning environment focused on character and achievement.

We primarily utilize the Abeka curriculum, which is renowned for its strong phonics-based reading program and traditional approach to mathematics, all presented from a biblical worldview.

Yes, elementary students participate in weekly “specials,” including music, art, STEM, and library. We believe these are essential for developing well-rounded students.
How is the Bible integrated into the elementary day?
In addition to a dedicated Bible class and daily prayer, elementary students attend weekly chapel services. Our teachers and textbooks also integrate biblical principles into every subject, from science to history.
What core subjects are required for high school graduation?
Our high schoolers follow a college-preparatory track that includes four years of English and math, as well as comprehensive credits in science, social studies, foreign language, and Bible.

We offer a variety of competitive sports for boys and girls, including soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, golf, and cheerleading. Our teams compete in the NCCSA athletic conferences.
